Offset printing is a traditional printing method in which the image is not transferred directly onto the surface, but first onto an intermediate cylinder (printing plate) and then onto the metal to be printed. This technique produces high-quality, consistent, and razor-sharp results on our metal tins.

Can tinplate cans be printed all-over?

Yes, tinplate cans can definitely be printed all-over. The process begins with tinplate, which is cut from rolls into sheets. Depending on the required print run, these sheets are printed either in multi-sheet (gang) printing or single-sheet printing. Offset printing allows the use of full four-color process (CMYK) as well as special Pantone colors, enabling precise corporate colors and vibrant designs. After printing, a protective coating is applied to safeguard the print, enhancing both durability and appearance. Finally, the ink is cured using a heat tunnel or UV light, ensuring fast and efficient color fixation.

What are the differences between offset and digital printing?

Offset printing for tinplate cans is particularly efficient for larger print runs. This is mainly because the printing machines operate very quickly and the printing plates can be processed efficiently. However, setting up the machines for each job is relatively complex, as custom plates must be produced for every design. These initial setup costs make offset printing less economical for small quantities, which is why we offer this printing process only for a minimum order of around 2,000 pieces.

Color quality

Offset printing allows a wide range of colors: CMYK for standard prints, Pantone for precise corporate colors, and special inks such as metallic for striking effects. These options provide precise and consistent color reproduction for all printing requirements.

Image resolution

For offset printing on metal, we use a resolution of 300 dpi, which meets industry standards. This level of detail ensures that images and text are printed sharply and clearly without compromising quality. Higher resolutions cannot be reproduced correctly by the printing machines, ensuring that every detail of your design appears exactly as intended.

Preparation time

Offset printing requires the production of printing plates, which takes more time than digital printing. This may extend the overall production time.
